In dealing with a change or a problem, awareness must often be followed by a period of acceptance before we can take action. This process is sometimes referred to as the “3 As”: Awareness, Acceptance, Action.
Coping with a new awareness can be extremely awkward, and most of us are eager to spare ourselves the pain or discomfort, so we tend to grasp at straws looking for a quick fix. If we haven’t fully accepted the unpleasant reality we are faced with, we probably won’t be capable of taking effective action.
I know for me, this period of acceptance is the most uncomfortable part of the process. Some overlook this step, fearing their acceptance means submission to a challenging situation. To the contrary, by taking the time to allow the process to evolve, you are given the insight to decide what to do about it! Acceptance can actually be empowering because unforeseen options can become available, making choice possible.
This week I pray that you have the courage to take the time to just sit with your challenges to gain a better understanding before you leap into action.
